Read Time
Paste a post or drop Markdown, MDX or text files to see how long they take to read. Code, tables and images get their own time.

Nothing to time yet
Paste text above, drop a Markdown or text file, or press paste anywhere on the page. The read time shows up here as you type.
How it works
What gets counted
- Words in headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes and link text
- Frontmatter, URLs, JSX, imports, comments and symbols are skipped
- Code blocks add about 4 seconds per line; inline code reads slower
- Images add 12 seconds for the first, a little less for each after
- Tables and math take longer; CJK text is timed per character
How the estimate adapts
- The word count matches the Portfolio read-time script exactly
- Technical, dense or code-heavy writing slows the pace a little
- Lists and tables are easier to skim, so they speed it up
- Plain text is never treated as Markdown, so # and * stay ordinary
- Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded
